As community is an imporatant part of the Skagen AiR program you should expect to engage with the local community, business community, schools, associations or other institutions in Skagen. In one way or the other.

For some it might be in the form of exhibition visits, workshops, walks and talks, meetings with other artists and curators from the Skagens’s Museum, participating in seminars, etc.

We help you make contacts to the city and plan what acitivities that will be relevant to you and your work.

The program always includes:

Yes, you will receive a monthly allowance of € 1400 to cover living expenses, local transport, and the cost of materials and production. The allowance is paid at the end of each month.

Skagen AiR is a residency focused on creating new communities and understanding, and you do not necessarily have to produce while you are here.

You should expect to use at least half of your monthly allowance on living expenses.

We recommend you research for materials well in advance of your arrival. Much is available to buy in Skagen, but it is nevertheless a small town, so certain things might have to be bought online.

Yes, we do accept multidisciplinary artists and/or performance artists in our programme. If you are predominantly showing your work/sound piece/music/performance in professional contexts, you are eligible for the Skagen AiR residency programme.

We ask for professional references in case the jury needs them during the selection process.

Skagen AiR primarily focuses on individual artists due to the residency facilities. We are, however, very open to duos since communities are the primary objective of the residency programme.

A duo, however, will be considered as ‘one resident artist’. That means that the duo shares the residence facilities, the studio, and bedroom. This also applies to the monthly fee, so only one of you will have your travelling expenses covered by the programme.

The Skagen AiR programme invites three artists at a time, for a twelve-week period. Resident artists have separate bedrooms but share kitchen, living room, and bathroom facilities.

You will be living together with the other two resident artists in a house/flat in the heart of Skagen. The three of you will share the house/flat and its facilities.

Yes, you have your own ‘private’ studio located near Skagen’s Museum. The studios are built for research and are office-size.

Unfortunately, the residency only has room for you. There are, however, several accommodation options in Skagen for your partner/family. We love animals, but unfortunately it will not be possible to bring them.

We offer you reimbursement of your travelling costs round trip. The amount depends on your place of residence, and a prerequisite for reimbursement is that you are travelling in economy class.

Travelling distance under 1000 km round trip: up to €350

Travelling distance from 1000 – 5000 km round trip: up to €1000

Travelling distance from 5000 km round trip: Up to €2000

As a general rule, your place of residence, ticket + i.eg. boarding pass is the basis for your refund.

If you are travelling by car, the number of kilometers will be reimbursed according to government rates, low rate.

We recommend that you travel as sustainably as possible, both economically and environmentally.

As a resident at Skagen AIR, we expect you to be able to work independently and reach out to the people and institutions on the Danish contemporary art scene that you want to contact by yourselves.

Therefore, you will not be part of a mentoring program during your residency, but we are of course happy to help you establish the necessary contacts.

By Nordic artists we mean, that you should have a connection to one of the Nordic countries.

Either you come from a Nordic country or you are living in one of the Nordic countries.
