When the other Skagen painters depicted the roaring sea, he noticed the empty hinterland. He painted private scenes inside the home, with both family and friends as his models.
My World selects themes in Viggo Johansen’s art which can present new perspectives on current issues such as private life, network, equality, provincial life and climate.
The exhibition includes Viggo Johansen’s painting Evening Talk from 1886. In his day it was shown in Paris under the title Chez moi (With Me). In all the pictures of the exhibition we are with the artist. We are up close, seeing the world through his very eyes.
We are invited into the private sphere in pictures from his home, along with his loved ones. We are side by side with him in desolate nature.
We understand how short life is in gentle pictures of death.
The exhibition is a collaboration between The Hirschsprung Collection, Ribe Kunstmuseum and the Art Museums of Skagen.
The exhibition is supported by 15. Juni Fonden, A.P. Møller og Hustru Chastine Mc-Kinney Møllers Fond til almene Formaal, Augustinus Fonden, Axel Muusfeldts Fond, Hoffman & Husmands Fond, Knud Højgaards Fond, Konsul Georg Jorck og Hustru Emma Jorck’s Fond, Ny Carlsbergfondet samt Aage og Johanne Louis-Hansens Fond.
